Setting - Set in 1984, in an american town in south central Los Angeles, known to be quite rough despite LA stereo typically a nice, richer area.
Themes - The main themes presented in the first 5 minutes of the film are horror and violence. This is shown by the police tape and blood around it seen when the group of young friends are visiting the crime scene.
Icons - The main props are the school bags that the children are carrying when at school to show to the audience that they're school kids going to/from school. One other prop that is also used is the teacher's cane. The cane can represent how violent the town is compared to other parts of LA.
Narrative - The plot for the first 5 minutes is that there has been a shooting in a rough part of south central LA and a group of kids discover the area. They then continue to attend school for the day, with the characters' personalities unraveling.
Characters - The main character is Tre Styles who is an cocky, intelligent child with a short temper which carries him down. The other main child is Bobby who is Tre's friend but ends up having a fight with Tre after being told he is from Africa. The final main character is the teacher who is impressed with Tre's intelligence but is concerned about his short temper.
Textual Analysis:
Style of Camera - the first shot is a sign of a 'STOP' sign being zoomed into, inferring that something bad has happened. There are other shots where the camera 'crabs' across the road, following the children.
Editing: The are many fades into other scenes combined with sad music to portray to sad event that had previously happened. This is shown best when the scene in the class begins and there is a slow fade into the scene, joint with sad music. Tre gets the most screen time as he is the main character. The film is all in order with the shooting, off screen, followed by the children walking to school and discovering the crime scene.
Sound - Columbia Pictures, the media industry that made Boyz N the Hood, decided to use low-key lighting to create a dramatic feeling. At the beginning. when the screen is black, there is the dialogue from the shooters and then the shooting, combined with sad music to make it dramatic. Off screen, there are planes, the teacher attempting to calm down Tre and Bobby, dogs barking and then the shooting itself.
CLAMPS:
C - The costumes that the children wear are typical American clothing such as a sweatshirt and black cargo trousers for Tre, light pink denim jacket for the girls in the group with blue jeans.
L - Lighting is quite neutral because it is the morning so it is quite dark, which also links to the deaths that have happened overnight.
A - The main actors are younger children in south central LA, mixed gender.
M - There is no makeup used as they're children who have been brought up in a rough area of LA
P - Main props that are used are the school bags that the children own, the cane that the teacher has.
S - The setting is the beginning of they, shown by the quote 'did you hear the shooting last night?' and also the children walking to school. It is during spring/summer shown by the blue sky but not hot enough as they're wearing sweatshirts.

Ghost Ship
Setting - During the first 5 minutes of the film, the setting is in the main dance hall of a cruise ship. It seems to be a wedding reception where everyone is dancing and cheerful.
Theme - The main theme is horror, however, this is questioned at the start as it begins with cheerful, happy music which soon transitions to built up, tense music; contrapuntal.
Icons - The main icons/props used in the opening scene are the microphone which the film starts with, the many flowers around the hall and the metal cable that kills everyone.
Characters - The main characters in the opening scene are the singer at the beginning, the little girl who starts dancing with the old man, and the other couples/families who are dancing in the hall.
Technical Analysis - The tension builds as does the sound when the metal cable is first shown. Beforehand, the music is chirpy and happy.

First Premiere Pro Edit
I used Premiere Pro CS6 to practise editing using many variations of videos including cities and dancing animals. I added different effects and transitions supplied through Media's files and put them into parts of the edit to make it better. The transitions I used are: Paper and flow

Picture Task
We were given 2 genres at random to take a photo that represents each of the genres. We were given Action and Adventure. For action, we used the idea of ‘backstabbing’ to create a tense atmosphere and for adventure, we used the idea of ‘climbing’ to create a fearless and adventurous atmosphere. These genres went well because they were a lot of wears to represent each genre, all in different styles and moods. However, because the 2 genres are so alike, it hard to get 2 photos that didn’t overlap one another.
Action
Action
We decided to use the library as our location because it contrasts, what is meant to be, a quiet, pleasant place to be with a violent action of stabbing people. Themes that can be inferred from this photo are revenge, violence and power. The main props used in this photo are the knife and phone. This are significant because of the story behind the photo is that I am messaging some else whilst the other person is backstabbing. Therefore, the characters are the boy and girl. The camera is pointed down towards them so, from the photo, you can see both the knife and the messages on the phone.
Adventure
For the adventure genre, we decided to use many different areas of the back playground because combined with various camera angles, you can get some great adventurous photos. The photo I decided to use was a photo in a tree. Using a tree gave a great feeling of adventure along with Leo looking out into the distance. Themes that can be related to this photo are wilderness, exploration and the outdoors. There are no props in the photo, all there is, is Leo and the tree he is standing on. The camera is low to the ground and facing up towards the three with Leo on the left of the photo with him looking right, towards the distance and across the picture.

Summer Work Pt3
Donald Trump allegedly said that Islamic people fear the rest of the UK. This gives majority of people the same opinion that Trump is a bad person, especially, when using a religion to scare others. Obviously, this gives a negative effect on everybody's views and opinions because news companies view Trump as an awful person who is dedicated to judging different religions to make everyone 'wary' of what they are doing, therefore, these news companies make Trump seem worse than he actually may be.
Summer Work Pt2
Deutschland 83
The producer uses slow paced music to build tension up and eventually the music gains pace. The music gains pace once the timer clock reaches 0 seconds. This then has an immediate response where the tension breaks and everything set off. The music speeds up, the beat picks up and the amount of editing occurs more. The amount of chopping between shot to shot increases to fit the faster beat, which, therefore, increases the tension and makes the viewer want to watch the film when released. In addition, as soon as the timer ends, the drama and action starts where the viewer see guns being shot, people running away and hospital scenes. These scenes interest viewers as it shows tension, drama and action all in a few seconds.

Steve Neale
A film genre is a category that a film can be related to, for example, horror and comedy. The idea that Steve Neale created was that genres may be dominated by repetition but also marked by variation, difference and change. The idea that genre changes, develops, varies, borrows and overlaps with one another.
Intro To Media
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is one of my favourite films because of the comedy to presents and gives the audience many different pauses that create tension which leads to humorous moments. Colombia pictures, who produced Jumanji, based the film on the board game and previous film: Jumanji. Using the story of the original Jumanji, Colombia pictures added a modern theme to the film and changed the board game to a video game. The modernized style gives many humorous moments and makes all of the characters personalities and characteristics.
